Green Lake Park History
Built by the CCC
The Green Lake (aka Weber Lake) shelter was one of the earliest products of a new federal policy implemented in 1935 to increase the recreational usage within the national forests.
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) provided the labor force that allowed the Forest Service to persue conservation and build recreational facilities such as the shelter at Green Lake Park.
The grounds were donated by A. C. Weber and the Mountain CCC Camp began construction on the picnic ground facilities in 1937. The pavilion was constructed using local materials including cedar and pine, in the Rustic Style which guided the design of national parks and forests from 1916 through the 1940s. The CCC also cleared the land along the shore in front of the shelter, and added sand to the beach.
The Green Lake Pavilion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
